EDGE THEORYHOW IT WORKS
Follow one idea all the way to a Bot.
Start with one sentence. We’ll follow it through Pulse, Strategy Lab, simulated testing and Evidence Lab, until you can decide whether to run it.
No sign-up needed to follow the example. No promise that a strategy will perform.

THE WALKTHROUGHONE IDEA, KEPT IN VIEW
Here’s the same idea, at every stage.
Each step adds detail. The examples are illustrative; the only results shown are labelled as simulated examples.
01IDEA
That’s enough to start.
You don’t need to begin with indicators or Bot settings. Start with how you’d explain the trade to another person.
“Buy ETH when it breaks yesterday’s high on strong volume. Stop below the breakout candle.”
A plain sentence can be the first draft. Pulse helps make the missing decisions visible.
02QUESTIONS
Pulse asks before it guesses.
When a detail changes the rules, Pulse can ask. For this walkthrough, the trader chooses a timeframe and clarifies what counts as a breakout.
Should the breakout count only after a candle closes above yesterday’s high?
Pulse asks before it guesses, with no more than 3 questions. Every assumption is shown in writing.
03RULES
Your sentence becomes rules you can inspect.
Strategy Lab is where the draft stops being a black box. Read each condition, see where it came from, and edit what you want to change.
STRATEGY LAB · DRAFT
ETH breakout
READ BACK IN PLAIN ENGLISH
Go long on ETH after a 4-hour candle closes above yesterday’s high, with your chosen volume threshold met. Place the stop below the breakout candle.
Nothing is locked. Review the assumptions, change a condition or adjust an exit. A new edit gets a fresh preview.
04TEST
Now let the rules meet historical markets.
Strategy Lab tests saved rules against historical candle data. The live chart below gives real market context; it is not presented as a backtest or a recorded trade.
Market Chart
Read-only market candles
What does a real test explain?Open the rule-by-rule view
For a saved strategy test, Strategy Lab can show the evaluated rules behind recorded simulated activity. This walkthrough shows no test output or example trade.
- Price condition: candle close above yesterday’s high.
- Confirmation: the volume threshold you choose.
- Protection: stop below the breakout candle.
A MORE REALISTIC SIMULATION
The preview re-runs on every edit.
No daily backtest limit on any plan, including Free.
05EVIDENCE
A backtest tells you what happened. Evidence asks why you should trust it.
Evidence Lab challenges a result from a saved version. A favourable backtest is a starting point for scrutiny, not a promise about what comes next.
LUCK
The Evidence Lab compares your strategy with random entries.
Could timing alone explain the result?
UNSEEN DATA
The Evidence Lab tests on unseen data.
Keep a separate period for another look.
MARKET REGIMES
When did the strategy work?
Look for results that depend heavily on one kind of market.
See what “Reveal unseen data” meansThis opens an explanation, not a member report or result.Reveal
In the real Evidence Lab, revealing is recorded for that version and cannot be undone. Review the rules first.
EXAMPLE · SIMULATED EVIDENCE
CROBUSTNESS GRADEWHAT THE REPORT FLAGGED
Most of this example’s historical performance came during uptrends.
The Evidence Lab gives each strategy a reasoned robustness grade. This C grade is illustrative, not a member result.
PULSE · CRITIQUE
Reads the Evidence Lab result“This version appears much weaker outside uptrends. You could test whether an explicit trend filter makes the behaviour more consistent.”
A change isn’t better because Pulse suggested it. The new version has to face the tests again. The grade shown here is an example only.
06BOT
Then decide whether it deserves the watching.
Getting to a Bot is a choice, not a reward for reaching a particular grade. Practise first, keep reviewing the evidence and choose your next step.
SIMULATED BOT · EXAMPLE WORKFLOW
See the activity beside the tested range.
Recorded simulated results against tested range.
SIMULATED
Practise without live orders.
Use simulated balances to observe the configured workflow and recorded activity.
LIVE · WHERE SUPPORTED
Your separate decision.
Live orders require a supported Bot, an eligible plan and your own supported exchange connection.
For a Live connection, keep withdrawals disabled and grant only the permissions the Bot needs. Never share API credentials.

What did that journey use?
AI credits are charged for AI actions. Running the engine’s simulated test is a separate step.

BEFORE YOU BEGINNO SURPRISES
What you need is simple.
An idea
That’s enough to start. You can clarify it as you go.
No code
Pulse helps structure the idea. Strategy Lab lets you review and edit the rules.
An exchange account only for Live
You can design, test and practise in Simulated without connecting an exchange.
GOOD QUESTIONSBEFORE YOUR FIRST BOT
A few things worth knowing.
Does Pulse place trades for me?
No. Pulse helps draft strategy rules. A draft or backtest does not activate a Bot or place a live order.
Are the examples on this page real results?
The EdgeCharts view uses current market candles for context; it is not this example strategy’s backtest. The grade C is an illustrative simulated example, not a member’s trade or performance record.
Can I change a strategy after Pulse builds it?
Yes. Review and edit supported rules in Strategy Lab, then run a fresh test. A previous result does not automatically carry over to an edited version.
Do I need to connect an exchange to try Edge Theory?
No exchange connection is needed to design, test or practise with a Simulated Bot. A supported connection is needed only if you choose a Live workflow.

What happens to your idea?
Describe your strategy in your own words. Your idea carries through sign-up into the designer.
